Tri Hards Snowdon Ascent
Monday 9th May, Tuesday 10th May, Wednesday 11th May
Format
Snowdon or Yr Wyddfa, sits prominently in Snowdonia National Park and is unique in having a rach and pinion railway leaving the village of Lllanberis to its summit on most days - weather permitting. That’s the easy way up (at a price!) the following 2 routes offer a scenic way up with different levels of difficulty and exposure.
This starts (as the name suggests) in the village of Llanberis a short distance from the accommodation. It takes an almost parallel route to the railway which is indicative of the slope angle which is gentle throughout. The ground underfoot is straightforward with little in the way of undulating terrain, it is around 14.5km as a return journey with 975m of ascent.
This path is one of the most scenic and takes a tour through history; it visits Gladstone Rock as well as the old slate mines. It is steeper in places than the Llanberis with a steep scree slope at the top which is also quite exposed before reaching the summit. It is 6.5km with a solid 1000m of ascent with the last slope giving a good portion of that, expect rough terrain, loose scree and steep sections requiring hands and feet at times. The return would be down the Llanberis path to finish a short distance from the hotel. This gives a total distance of approx 10km.

Members can arrange walks leading up to the event on Woodbury Common, even 2-4 hours of walking up there will support your fitness.
